Hannah Smith Biography
Bio
Hannah Smith is currently living and working in Melbourne. In the context of contemporary drawing, her works employ a mark making process, which involve matters of immediacy, intimacy and intricacy. These drawings reflect almost microscopic worlds, in allowing drawings to reveal themselves. She uses a range of mediums including ink, pencil and embossing and works in a matter of concern with surface or materials.
Hannah Smith completed a Bachelor of Visual Media in Fine Art (mj. Theory and Drawing) at the Queensland College of Art. She has exhibited widely nationally, and recently internationally.
Artist Statement
Drawing for me requires a sense of solitude, its the most concentrated space in which I work. I am attracted to creating works that employ a labour intensive repetition in which will see me drawing the same mark over and over again until something interesting reveals itself. At the risk of the motion sounding monotonous, the process needs to be governed by self imposed rules so the work doesn’t result in chaos.
With its myriad of patterns and intricacies, the work I create reflects a sense of possibility, which in turn creates an intimate experience in creating and viewing the work.
